The Necropolitans find evidence that someone’s been mapping the area, and argue about their weight, in Episode 079: I don't want to be the wizard king.
Being undead is very handy for underground exploration, freeing you from the really horrifying hazards of actual underground exploration.
Something I find interesting is how players tend to assume every friendly NPC they encounter is a weakling compared to them. Tlasritte is a homebrew archetype focused on architecture, and is very good at breaking stone, metal, etc. as well as being a mummy. One on one, he could probably have made a mess of the party, though he wouldn't actually win (NPCs don't get the various levelling boosts that PCs do, and he's also built to be an architect, not a warrior). This assumption will hold true throughout the campaign, although the flat-out most dangerous NPCs are the thirteen-year-old girl and Innocent, who don't get into fights in the first place.
Jaal's psychometry gives a clue as to the nature of this place: it's a doomsday bunker. Spoilers: it worked out really well for them.
"Jaal has problems with Iris but he doesn't actually want Iris to get hurt. Well, that hurt."
"You're the only person capable of damaging yourself."
